Passivhaus Alignment – Low Energy Homes

passivhaus trust member

Passivhaus is the world’s leading standard for energy efficient construction – a standard that Glatthaar is committed to.

For a house to meet the highest energy efficiency standards, all elements of the construction process must be considered. Every project starts with the ground bearing slab or basement. There are limits to the materials that can be used due to load and environmental parameters. The Glatthaar precast basement system, coupled with best practice in insulation and tanking, provides a fully watertight insulated solution that can meet and exceed the Passivhaus standard.

To meet the required insulation levels, we install thermal insulation under and around the Ground Bearing Slab. Prefabricated AquaSafe® Basement elements fit together and are then filled with concrete to create a sealed block. Additional wall insulation and waterproofing ensures the space is dry and warm. We offer a 10-year insurance backed guarantee on our AquaSafe® basements.

We have completed several Passivhaus self-build projects and understand the requirements of the standard. Even if you are not aiming for Passivhaus, it is important to create the most energy efficient home possible. Insulation helps with both heating and importantly, overheating, which is an issue we see with changing weather patterns. When designing your self-build, consider future proofing your project against predicted environmental conditions.

With over 40 years of experience and over 80,000 completed projects, we can assist clients with a wide range of plans, which include groundworks, through our company GM Group.

We can deliver basements and floor slabs that can exceed the Passivhaus standard U-value of 0.15.
