Glatthaar Keller has teamed up with Bunker Schutzraum Systeme Deutschland (BSSD Defence GmbH) to offer bespoke shelter solutions for single and multi-family homes, as well as underground car parks. The two partners combine their strengths: Glatthaar Keller supplies the specially designed prefabricated structures, while BSSD Defence GmbH handles the technical fit-out of the shelter. “Our strength lies in integrating shelter technology into the basement from the outset,” emphasises Glatthaar’s Michael Gruben.

Individually tailored solutions

The foundation is Glatthaar Keller’s more than 45 years of experience in precast concrete construction. Reinforced concrete structures with greater wall and ceiling thickness are used for shelters, tailored to the specific requirements and number of occupants. Glatthaar Keller integrates wall penetrations and pipework at the factory, fits site-cast security doors, and provides a secure emergency exit via an external concrete light well with steps. The result is robust spaces that offer protection in an emergency whether from military threats, natural disasters or other events.

Short build times and reproducible quality

The systems can be flexibly adapted to the plot and its intended use. Bunkers can be discreetly integrated into the basement of a single-family house, or built beneath a garage or underground car park. Michael Gruben adds “The industrial prefabrication of the elements shortens the build time on site and ensures reproducible quality.”

Individual fit-out options

BSSD Defence complements the structural shell with the necessary safety technology. This includes gas filtration systems for chemical and biological agents, air exchange systems, electrical installation, water connections, and fit-out details such as bunk beds or sanitary facilities. Self-builders define the desired specification level from a simple emergency shelter to a technically comprehensive shelter. Glatthaar Keller and BSSD Defence develop an individual concept for each self-builder, covering the size of the room, its position within the floor plan, and its fit-out.
